Blogging for Profits Course: Day 10

Day 10 - Building Relationships with Other Blogs

Over the first nine lessons in this course, you’ve seen that setting up a blog is not difficult - but building a blog that will be recognized by others as an authority site will take time and effort on your part. Your goal should be to make at least one quality post per day. In terms of search engine rankings, it’s to your greater benefit to publish one post per day than to have long gaps of time between posts.

Eventually your blog will be recognized by other bloggers within your niche, and those bloggers will want to post a link to your site when they discover an interesting article or post on your blog that would benefit their visitors as well. Take advantage of these opportunities to increase traffic to your blog by thanking other bloggers who have referred their visitors to your site, and/or provide a reciprocal link back to their blog as well. Build good will, and you will build your reputation.

Do you think it would be helpful if you could track where your visitors are coming from? You bet it would! Statcounter (www.statcounter.com) is a free utility that allows you to see where your traffic is coming from. If you are receiving a lot of visitors from a particular blog, visit that blog, and when and if appropriate, leave a comment with a link back to your blog. This is another great way you can build excitement and interest in your blog.

Continue to do this and you will develop name recognition for yourself and your blog, which will open up opportunities for collaborations with other blog owners (interviews, joint ventures, etc.). Remember that your blog visitors are not just seeking information; they’re also looking for a personalized experience. They want to know a bit about who you are, and interviews are one way of providing the kind of visit that will build a loyal following to your blog.

Certain blog engines, such as WordPress, Moveable Type, and others, allow you to post trackback links to other blog posts. By using trackbacks, you can let a site know that you have referenced them on your on site. Your trackback will then appear on the other blog, once again drawing traffic and building your reputation. You must be take care not to overuse this strategy, or you risk being viewed as a spammer. Keep your trackback posts insightful, sensible, and appropriate.

If you use Blogger (owned by Google), you don’t have the option of using trackback links. However, you can still post comments to a particular post of interest on other blogs, and incorporate a subtle link back to your own blog. If your comment is relevent and thoughtful, it will seem that you’re linking to your blog to provide an additional source of reference information. This is a terrific way to generate traffic to your blog when used appropriately.

While this represents the last lesson in our 10-day mini course, it’s really only the beginning - we’ve provided the framework of how you can begin to build a successful, profit-pulling, traffic-generating blog. Now it’s up to you to take action. We will continue to provide guidance, inspiration, tools, articles, and training materials to help you throughout this process.

It’s been our pleasure working with you. We love hearing from people, and would really enjoy hearing your comments on the course. To post your comments, just visit our blog at the following link and leave your comments either on the post of the course overview, or on any of the individual training day posts.

Have you had any luck with multimedia on the latest wordpress version. I want sound like mp3 and embeded videos that will play FLV,swf or wmv.

Most of the plugins I have tried don’t work or there is no clear instructions that make sense.

Have had some success with mp3 but that is it. Can you help?

    Hello Carl,

I’ve located some plugins that might be helpful to you. Check out this page:

I haven’t tried these out myself yet, but I am planning on doing so soon. Just got some really cool video skins software that will make my vids much more attractive than the usual fare.

Let me know if you have some success with any of the plugins on the wordpress site. If you have trouble, let me know that, too, and we’ll see what we can figure out.

    ~ Kat
